Teaching English in Community School:
Teaching English to children who are very enthusiastic to learn from international volunteers while immersing in Nepalese culture and widening your perspective on the world. The children in Nepal begin learning English in grade three in our village school and grade one in private school, so it’s not a surprise that most of the student have basic level of English. The benefits of learning English from a native speaker are inspiring for the young children.
The pressure to learn English in Nepal for young children is enormous. It’s not only the second language of Nepal, it’s also the language used in trade, commerce and communication without the knowledge of English, the chance of securing a good job are severely restricted. As an English teacher in Nepal your top priority will be to advance the children’s language skills as much as possible during the duration of your stay. This will be both challenging and rewarding, and will enrich the lives of both you and your students. For the children the more exposure to a western or native speaker of English is of huge benefit while the progress made through new teaching methods is also a major plus.
We place volunteers in rural elementary schools. Volunteer will be assist the local teachers with their English class and other subjects. These volunteers are able to experience living in rural villages and will observe the true meaning of “community” as a volunteer with our teaching English program. You will have the opportunity to give these children the education and support they need and deserve. The ability to speak, read and write in English is becoming more and more important in Nepal and is fast becoming a required skill for job placement and educational advancement.
Anything the children learn in your class will benefit them significantly in years to come. Not only can you enrich the student lives during your time in Nepal. For our volunteers this is an opportunity to bring new and fun teaching practice to the classroom and exchange thoughts and ideas with Nepali teachers.
